Oh avid listeners my silent visitors (that one's for you, tao)
Dale from "Hey, those are my Nachos," TX is calling out lurkers on his blog today. He has got me thinking, which his insightful, inspirational, innovative, sparkly, cool, rad, mint, swell and effervescent blog often does . . .

Bloggers and Blogettes, what are your views on lurkers? Fun visitors, do you lurk here and elsewhere, and if so, would you be able, even anonymously, to say why? Don't feel like commenting? I'm a case study for your Psych 101 class? Mom, is that you?

That said, if you lurk, know that I'm glad to have you.

In other news, try not to put new skin care products near the eyes. Said products produce extreme orbital swelling, snarky comments from co-workers re: seldom worn Tina Fey glasses, and inexplicable craving for small-town carnival funnel cake.

I'm not a lurker. I'm a stalker.

I comment at least twice a post.

I can't help it. You are hilarious. And I'm pathetic.

Blogger Kris said...

My stalker post comes later. Stay tuned. :)

Happy Monday, Mel!!!!

hmm. i wouldn't call myself a lurker, just an observer.

Blogger Mel said...

Happy Monday as well!

I re-commented on Dave's post. Go check it out. I can't stop laughing! Never a dull moment in blogland.

BTW, you should have like 200 comments for this post. I know you have MILLIONS of closet lurkers out there, and I hope that they respond!

Blogger Mel said...

I just realized I have been calling Dale "Dave".

Oh. Shit.

It's offical. Dale's new nickname is now Dave.

Blogger Vince said...

Does it count as lurking if this is the first time I've ever been here?

Blogger Kris said...

Vince. Nice. Your $20 check is in the mail . . .

Blogger deanne said...

Is it lurking if you only discovered a blogger a couple posts ago?!

I wonder about lurkers too - why would anyone lurk and not comment?

Lurkers! Come forth!

Blogger Tao said...

I'm a part-time lurker (better said: silent observer!!) I like to keep up with your blog, but sometimes don't have much to say.

Blogger Kris said...

Hi Deanne and Tao! Tao, excellent point. Silent observer is a great way to say it! Thanks to both of you for writing.

Blogger Slade said...

I think I have lurkers that come read my blog...it's funny because whenever I post something very controversial, I will get an annoymous comment and I know that it is probably the lurkers.

I've been reading your blog for a couple weeks now because you are hilarious. Plus, like I've said before, you are the gateway to other cool people. haha. (And people that call me Dave.) Just joking, mel...

Blogger Jason said...

I'd be overly vain to think I have lurkers. I'm always amazed when somebody new posts a comment on my blog.

Blogger jb3ll3 said...

You are so seriously with it that a comment from me would slow you up! I love your blog!

JB that is incredibly generous! (JB = Kris' mom . . . Mom, I will let you and the cat out of the pantry when I get home.)

Jason, I bet you think this post is about you . . . but seriously, folks, you can see if you have silent observers just by your stats, n'est-ce pas?

Blogger Tao said...

I think the name 'lurker' has a negative connotation to it...how about renaming us as your 'avid listeners' ?? :)

Blogger Tao said...

What a great new title for the post!! WhereEVER did you think it up?? :)

Blogger Tao said...

Kris, btw, now that you've drawn me out of your avid-listener closet...I remember a few posts back you mentioned an interest in Contiki. A few years ago, I had taken a Contiki vacation and it was one of the best experiences of my life! Let me know if you have any questions about Contiki!

Blogger Poppy Cede said...

Thanks for introducing me to Dale. I had not yet met him in my blog travels. If I haven't made myself clear in my posting and in my sidebar, I encourage lurkers. If someone doesn't feel like they have anything to say to me, that's cool by me. Just happy they're sticking around to read. I do have to admit, though, that I secretly stash the comments in a folder in my email for rainy days when I'm feeling blue. :)

Lurkers should always jump in and try to post... the more the merrier!

Blogger Bridget Jones said...

Hey I've got lurkers too and they're very welcome. One is Jery, others are office pals and the nicest surprise is lurkers who write from time to time.

Love them all!

When they're comfy, they'll post.

Or not. Completely up to all

Bridg

p.s. Mel, that cat is just too cute. WAY cute!

Blogger Laurie said...

I lurk AND I comment. So I'm sort of a conundrum that way.

I've been totally called out as a lurker... Ok - so I confess... I lurk. I can't help it. You crack me up. I snort, giggle and laugh out loud pretty much everytime I visit... Good to know there are others as quirky as I am.

Blogger Oh, that girl. said...

I totally lurk. I lurk because I don't ever think I have something whitty enough to add to the post and/or comments. I am just a lurking looser.

Anonymous Jorge said...

Lurkers aren't so bad, I guess. It all depends on why they lurk. I check my stats fairly often to see where people hail from.

It's not like they do anything harmful.

Hey Kris, I have some extra funnel cake if you like. FEDEX TO THE RESCUE!

I LOVE my link on your page! very funny!

Blogger Jodi said...

I was looking through old blogs and found your comment a while back and realized I stopped heading this way (which is why I'm adding you as a link.)

So no, I'm not necessarily a lurker, I do comment when I'm here :-)

I'd prefer that lurkers post a comment and let me know I have readers. Of course I've been known to lurk on someone's blog and not comment, so who am I to judge?

Blogger paintergirl said...

I lurk and usually comment after reading a couple of entries. I felt compelled to write. I LOVE the photo below too.

Blogger Bridget Jones said...

What's the opposite of lurkers? Folks like Mel and me who come back and send in even more comments?

Don't say 'blabbermouth', K?

Bridg

Blogger Kris said...

I would never say blabbermouth! I might write it . . . I'M KIDDING! I love that you guys comment. Repeatedly. :)

Laurie, VT, Slade, Poppy, Tao et al., I'm glad you came back! I wish Daddy had.

Erika, remember that after age 22 you can't play Spin the Bottle anymore. Uh oh. Time's up.

Min Pin, you are NOT a loser. Nothing with a face that hairy and cute could ever be a loser!

And Jorge. I waited all night for that funnel cake. At the corner of Streetcar and Desire. I guess FedEx musta closed early . . .

Blogger Bridget Jones said...

you can't play spin the bottle after 22?

Oh shit....

Damn.

It's weird that I tend to lurk on your site. I always like to check in on you but don't necessarily always have much to say (write).

Yours is certainly one of my favorite sites to lurk/visit.

Or, I'll lurk and then somehow break blogger so that it posts my comments a couple of times.

Blogger Dave said...

I used to comment. Now I'm just gonna lurk to, you know--just to mess with you.

Just wanted to make it a nice, even 40 comments.

Blogger Passerby A said...

Here's the 41st...

You guys are sneaky cheekers.

Blogger Aimée said...

I enjoy the lurk. I like to read your blog to laugh out loud, reminisce, and be a part of something so important to you - not to mention I can be entertained while sitting in my underpants with hair removal cream on my lip and not actually having to talk to anyone. Ahh, the sweet silence. Plus, I don't know how this S works or if my post actually gets through. And another thing ... I like to watch ... Yeah, that's real nice ... whuh? See. Now it's uncomfortable. I can't keep up with the banter. Leave me be and let me lurk in peace. You hear my comments everyday anyway :-)
