Commitment is on order this week
The beau set me up perfectly. We spent a beautiful Friday night together, the kind of evening that reminds you just how connected and at ease you are as a couple. Without a word, the beau spent an entire sleep spooning me in my claustrophobia-inducing bed. This speaks commitment.

The morning began like so many of our lazy Saturdays. Unwashed hair piled on top of my head and glasses in place, we sat on the couch laughing about family vacations of the future. He suggested brunch. We set off in our grungiest into the bright, unusually warm morning, and gorged ourselves on greasy buffet eggs, French toast, sausage and some of the best home-fried potatoes around.

He ended the meal with an offer. Let’s just go try them on for size.

Don’t be silly, I said. There are so many things we need to do today.

He was convincing. I soon found myself stumbling, my hand in his, across a sleepy Pennsylvania Avenue into an otherwise empty store. It soon became clear that the beau had been there before. He made his way to neither the biggest nor the most expensive choice. Still, he knew what would be just right.

He looked me in the eyes. It’s time. Let’s do this, he said, excitedly. I smiled.

And so we did.

The King bed arrives in two weeks.

I definately thought it was a ring as well...good/sweet story.
You're making me realize that I need a new/bigger bed.

Holy Kalamazoo! Finally a bed that can fit your big hair!

Ooo! Tell us more please!

Oh, man, am I ever jealous...I've been sleeping in a full since I was 8. Now I've got a 5'10" 200 pounder squashed in there with me! Congratulations on the new bed--don't let its immense size interfere with the spooning.

AAHAHA! You got me on that one. I really thought it was the ring...I should've known! Daaaaaamn yooooou!

I can't wait for Matt and I to buy a king.

Now you've got to work on your jimmy legs. Because it's definitely tougher to explain "accidentally" kicking your bunkee in a king sizer.

I hope you actually got on the beds and acted out all sorts of freaky positions to make sure it was just right before you bought it.

Well done.
This is more important than a ring. Sleep is the gift of the Gods, and I curse myself for having an incurable snore.

I'll exile myself to the couch if I snore too much, because my wife needs much more sleep than I do.

:(

We have a queen Pilla-top bed. :)
It's comfy, and large, but not large enough to have 2 postal codes (zip codes for youz south of the border). :)

congratulations. may your king bed bring you happiness for years to come- for better or worse! ;)

Blogger Danielle said...

...and I thought you weren't the commitment type. Or is that really all just a front, and contrary to earlier posts, you secretly want the hubby, white picket fence, and even (gasp) babies?

Blogger Mel said...

Wow! King size bed in a DC apartment! Will you still have room for the bedside table?

Enjoy your newfound luxury... just let the beau know he must continue to spoon!

whew! a bed...
i thought it was gonna be a ring...

Blogger Washington Cube said...

Yes...be sure and let us know just how much room it takes up, once installed. I, too, thought we were heading for a ring story.

Wedding rings are meant to be sold, but a king-sized bed lasts a lifetime. :) Yay!

Geez do I ever feel like a goober. You really had me going. Well done, missy!

However, wait until you price the sheets for a king size. Ouch.

Blogger babyjewels said...

YOU are so sneaky. I totally thought this was going to be about rings. nipple rings to be exact. Enjoy your purchase. (I don't mean it to sound as dirty as it does. wait, yes I do)

Blogger Jessica said...

ooooh! You so toyed with my emotions! Great writing girl! Congratulations on the bed........ I hope you picked a pillowtop! (I desperately miss the queen size one that I put into storage!)

Blogger Lulu said...

I am fond of 600 thread count or higher egyptian cotton sheets. You can get them for a great price at overstock.com. I want a new pillowtop bed soooo bad I can almost feel the softness cradling me...

Blogger Brookelina said...

Woohoo!! Gotta have the big bed. Speaking of beds - I did your meme at your request. However, I sort of....changed it. I'm sure you'll appreciate it. In fact, you might even do it too!

Blogger Cheryl said...

Conrats. I mean just the bed alone is reason to celebrate.

Blogger Jackie said...

Yes, you will sleep so much better!
It's even funnier when you realize you have ALL. THIS. ROOM. and you still fall asleep cuddling in the middle of the bed.

Nice! I would consider a bed purchased together almost equal to a ring, too! :)

Congrats, Kris! Sounds like you got him hooked. hehe

Ah a king sized bed to lounge in after a night of drunken-ness.

Blogger Bridget Jones said...

Great writing--you totally fished me in Kris!!

ha ha ha!!!

Blogger Alecia said...

You totally had me fooled. And I'm much more excited about the King Size bed than I would have been about the ring. ;)

PS..I think I'm back now. At least until I head over to NYC next weekend. Who knows if I'll make it back from that.

Blogger still_figuring_out said...

lol. you had me there! i too seriously thought it was going to be a ring. well, king bed is just as nice, i guess ;)

Blogger The Zombieslayer said...

That's too cool. We have a queen and it's not big enough for us, especially when the dog decides she wants to sleep with us.

Blogger Jenny said...

i decided on a whim once to get a king size bed and thank god i did. it has been the best sleep and sex i have ever had!
